We focus is on biodiversity because forests are known as biodiversity hotspots and offer a clear opportunity to address the global biodiversity crisis. This is why we are building innovative solutions that value and monetize biodiversity restoration in these critical ecosystems. By enhancing natural interactions, we aim to solve global environmental challenges.
As part of the Brainforest Biodiversity Lab launch, the first step for us to define our work in this new focus area was to gain a deep understanding of the problem. In May 2023, we decided to bring a systems-based approach to understanding the economic, political and social systems around rainforests. The result of our multi-stakeholder, multi-perspective online system-mapping workshop is expressed in the web below.
Forests hold 80% of Earth’s biodiversity. Yet, wildlife populations have plunged 69% in 50 years. To combat this, Brainforest, Somaha and Frey Charitable Foundation founded the Biodiversity Lab, focusing on market solutions to benefit local communities and promote biodiverse agroforestry.
